Yale woke to the sound of her cell phone alarm. She lay buried
under her thick white comforter, not wanting to get up. Her
first night at Cross Creek went well, and the bed was warm.
The annoying alarm still sounded from her pink razor. She reached
her arm out of her covers. The air in her dorm was warm, but
still cold. Goosebumps arose on her skin as she grabbed the
phone. She lay still for a moment, willing herself to just get up.
Jump in the shower & the water will be warm she thought.
After she took her shower, she dried her long chestnut hair
and let it sit at its natural wavy state. Her hazel eyes were
bright today, as today was the first day she was going to ride..
ever. She slipped on a pair of black riding pants with her black
riding boots. She had been fortunate enough to get these
before she came. She put on a plain white t shirt and a green
Hollister hoodie. She grabbed a pair of regular pink gloves from
her dresser and headed out the door.
Once she reached the outside she could already begin to smell
the smell of the barn. An unfamilier smell it was. She opened the
gate leading into the barn and walked down the long corridor.
On either side of her were horses, eating contently. She found
her assigned horse, Grace, munching away on some oats that
had been given to her. Yale stood by the bars. She put her fingers
around the metal bars and peered in. Grace was a sleek dark brownish
black color.
Yale reached down and unlatched the handle on the stall. She
slid the door open and set foot inside the hay covered floor.
Grace looked up at her and turned around to face her. She
nuzzled her with her soft nose. Yale winced at first, afraid Grace
was going to bite. But all she did was jam her nose into Yale`s stomach.
Yale let a small smile creep to her face as she pet the horse
between the eyes. This was definatly going to be a fresh new
start.
